3 August, 2005
* Update 12 August, 2005 - USC ranked second
only to UQ in Queensland following independent analysis of
university rankings by the Educational Policy Institute in today's
The Australian newspaper.
Academic staff at the University of the Sunshine Coast have
again received a five-star rating for their qualifications, placing
them among Queensland's best and Australia's finest.
The annual rating guide compares universities across Australia
and USC has been identified as having the highest proportion of
academic staff with Doctoral or Masters degrees of any Queensland
institution and one of the highest in Australia.
The combination of high academic qualifications and practical
industry know how means USC students benefit.
Lecturers bring with them real world examples and solutions to
issues facing today's industries, businesses and sciences and pass
that knowledge onto students.
The lifestyle benefits of living on the Sunshine Coast have also
attracted top lecturers to the University.
People like Gary Crew, who moved from Brisbane to the Sunshine
Coast hinterland and is now senior lecturer in Creative Writing at
USC.
Mr Crew is one of Australia's most awarded authors of children's
and youth fiction and illustrated stories and his popular creative
writing courses are helping people achieve their dreams of becoming
published authors.
Associate Professor Brendan Burkett is a gold-medal
winning Paralympian who carried the flag for Australia at the
Sydney Games. He now teaches sports science at the University
and students are benefiting from his extensive international
and national sporting connections.
As well as the University's regular teaching staff, guest
lecturers - selected for their extensive industry knowledge - add
to the total education experience at USC.
USC is laying the foundations for the future by ensuring a top
quality academic experience for its students.
