World Ironwoman Champion receives Alumni Award
Kristy Munroe, a Bachelor of Business graduate and current World Ironwoman Champion, received the 2006 Outstanding Alumni Award at the University Foundation event held on Tuesday 12 September.
Kristy was recognised for her achievements in Surf Lifesaving on a local, national and international level.
With both a University of the Sunshine Coast degree and multiple Australian and World Ironwoman Championship titles to her name, Kristy said she has now achieved much of her educational and sporting goals.
She is now working on her professional career, currently employed as a sports reporter for WIN Television and Membership Retention Manager for Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club.
Kristy said that completing her degree, with a major in marketing and a minor in international business, had been challenging but worthwhile. “I was only able to study part-time because of my training and work commitments,” she said.
Kristy has now set her sights on achieving even more in the sporting arena.
“I continue to compete almost each weekend during summer, challenging myself against the ocean and the ever improving skills of my fellow competitors,” she said.
Now in its second year, the inaugural Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award was presented last year to paralympian Marayke Jonkers.
The Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award is determined via nominations from faculty deans and final selection by a panel of senior staff, including Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Thomas.
