Business day for enterprising students
22 August 2006
More than 220 business students from Sunshine Coast high schools will be attending a Business Enterprise Day on Thursday 24 August at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
USC's Faculty of Business and the Business Educators’ Association of Queensland are jointly sponsoring the day, which has attracted students from Coolum, Nambour and Sunshine Beach state high schools, as well as from Pacific Lutheran, Matthew Flinders and Siena Catholic colleges.
With the school students setting up and operating “small businesses” as part of their school-work this semester, the Business Enterprise Day has been designed to provide students with a greater understanding of ”entrepreneurship at work”.
Keynote speakers include Kel Naughton, Strategic and Creative Director of UMBOX®, who will present a session on Branding – Brand, are we there yet! Belinda Hafey, Queensland State Manager, Nudie Food Australia Pty Ltd, will share the Nudie story, while Faculty of Business staff and students, and representatives from fourteen of the top businesses on the Coast will also provide key business insights to students.
A variety of topics will be covered during the day, including identifying critical business success factors, entrepreneurship, accounting and financial planning, marketing, e-business strategy, legal practice and intellectual property, and business innovation.
Dr Greg Laing of the Faculty of Business will open the Business Enterprise Day.
“It is a great example of the Faculty successfully working in partnership with local schools and businesses and the Business Educators’ Association of Queensland,” he said.
