Headstart students in the Library

16 October 2006

High school students from across the Sunshine Coast, north Brisbane and up to Gympie have an exciting opportunity to start studying towards degrees at the University of the Sunshine Coast while they are still at school.

Details of the USC’s Headstart program for Year 11 and 12 students will be provided at an information session at the University on Wednesday, October 25, from 6.30-8pm.

The information session has been organised for current Year 10 and 11 students and their parents and will outline the program requirements, the costs involved and the scholarships available for Headstart applicants.

USC External Relations Coordinator Kylie Russell said Headstart could help students determine whether they wanted to study at university when they finish school.

“Headstart gives you a taste of university life and helps prepare you for future study,’’ she said.

“It provides guaranteed entry into a USC degree if you successfully complete two courses within the Headstart program and obtain a senior certificate from your school.”

Ms Russell said more than 400 high school students had been involved in Headstart during the past four years.

The information session will be led by USC’s School Liaison Officer Marion Allan and up to 100 students are expected to attend. During the evening, current Headstart students and former participants who are now studying at USC will be on hand to discuss their experiences.

For more details about Headstart or to register for the information session contact Marion Allan on 5459 4795 or visit the USC website at www.usc.edu.au.
