War Widows reward nursing student

23 October 2006

Former Maroochydore High School student Britt Poynton received a helpful boost to her nursing studies at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Monday, October 23.

About 60 members of the War Widows Guild of Australia (Qld) Inc Maroochydore Sub Branch gathered at the USC Function Hall at noon to present a $500 bursary to Britt, who is in her second year of a Bachelor of Nursing degree.

After the presentation the War Widows Guild members held a luncheon at the Function Hall before touring the university’s new nursing facilities.

USC Foundation Executive Officer Andrew Pentland said the bursary would provide invaluable assistance for Britt towards the cost of text books and other study-related costs like uniforms, equipment and travelling costs.

Mr Pentland said USC now had about 80 community-funded scholarships, bursaries and prizes, worth about $180,000.
