Students discover Germany at USC's Oktoberfair
13 October 2006
Opportunities for University of the Sunshine Coast students to study in Germany were highlighted at a special OktoberFair to be held at USC on Wednesday, October 11.
Students were able to find out about the university’s Global Opportunities (GO) Program and enjoy bratwurst sausages and sauerkraut – along with many other things German – at the event which focused on international exchange opportunities in Germany.
USC currently has more than 30 students studying in exchange programs in countries around the world including Germany through its GO program which allows students to spend up to two semesters studying overseas while earning credits toward their USC degrees.
GO Program coordinator Liani Eckard said the OktoberFair information displays at the university Brasserie from 10am-2pm provided details about academic programs offered by 20 of USC’s German partner institutions.
German students from partner institutions currently studying at USC and returned GO Program students, were on hand to share their experiences and impressions of life and study in Germany.
“There were presentations by German guest professors on various courses as well as a general information session explaining the popular short-term and long-term programs offered in Hessen in 2007”, Ms Eckard said.
The guest presentations were held from noon to 1pm. The Student Guild staged a German barbecue at lunchtime and, in true ‘Oktoberfest’ tradition, the event featured performances by the German Singing Choir dressed in dirndls and lederhosen.
The university has partnerships with more than 80 universities and institutions around the world. Students can choose to study in countries like Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil, USA, Chile, China, Peru, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Thailand or the United Kingdom.
