University of the Sunshine Coast staff will gather tomorrow to discuss best practice in learning and teaching as part of the University's intensified focus on teaching, research and regional engagement.
An important new initiative, related to achieving institutional and individual success in teaching, is the introduction of an annual Vice-Chancellor's Learning and Teaching Colloquium.
The inaugural colloquium, being held tomorrow, affirms the University's continued commitment to excellence in learning and teaching.
Involving a prominent keynote speaker, presentations from the Vice-Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, panel discussions, plenary sessions and workshops, the general aims of the colloquium are to explore a particular theme and profile achievement in learning and teaching.
The theme for 2006 is 'transition and enhancing the first year experience', and will showcase best practice within USC.
The keynote speaker is Dr Kerri-Lee Krause, a senior lecturer in higher education at the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Melbourne.
She is highly regarded in first year experience, the changing undergraduate student experience, the practical and policy implications of the increasing integration of ICTs in learning and teaching, the effects of disciplinary cultures on approaches to teaching and learning, and strategies for enhancing assessment.
This event has emerged from the University's First Year Experience Project.
