USC academics to offer career advice at Sunshine Plaza
Shoppers at the Sunshine Plaza can pick up some interesting careers advice for free next Thursday evening (1 November).
Some of the University of the Sunshine Coast’s top academics will speak at a special careers information event at the River Stage area from 4-8pm.
Among them will be sports nutritionist Dr Fiona Pelly, who has worked with The Wiggles, and sports biomechanist Dr Mark Sayers, who has helped train top rugby union teams, the Wallabies and the All Blacks.
The event will begin at 4pm with representatives from USC available to talk about the full range of study programs at the University, the career opportunities available for graduates, and how to enrol to study in 2008.
This will be followed by four half-hour seminars from 5pm.
The first seminar on career planning, by USC careers and graduate employment officers, will outline how to choose school subjects for specific career pathways, provide hot tips for interviews and resumes, and include a careers self-assessment process.
At 5.30pm, Dr Pelly’s seminar on “Performance Enhancing Nutrition” will look at how diet influences physical and academic performance, and how nutritionists can help everyone perform at their best.
At 6pm, Dr Sayers will discuss the role of sport and exercise science in the preparation of high-performance footballers in his presentation on “The Science of Football”.
Then at 6.30pm, USC Science and Education senior lecturer Dr Richard White will speak about the University’s new engineering degrees in his presentation “Engineering Your Career”.
