USC’s exchange program wins State award
The University of the Sunshine Coast’s efforts in encouraging local students to study overseas have been honoured by the State Government.
USC’s Global Opportunities (GO) program won a major award at the Celebrating International Education and Training Industry Showcase in Brisbane last night (Thursday 30 August) for promoting internationalisation.
The GO program enables students to spend up to two semesters studying overseas while earning credits toward their degrees.
USC has partnerships with more than 70 universities and institutions around the world and offers grants of up to $2000 towards airfares for GO participants.
Premier Peter Beattie said in a media statement that strong outward mobility programs such as Global Opportunities were fundamental to building Queensland’s reputation as the Smart State.
“An international education experience builds skills and experience that are recognised globally and are invaluable to workers in the knowledge economy of the future,” he said.
USC Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Elliot said he was delighted the University won the prestigious award.
“This is a really strong external confirmation about the value and good management of our Global Opportunities program,” he said.
“USC is offering terrific international opportunities for students and this award confirms that our international project is going in the right direction.”
USC’s GO program recently was commended by an Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) audit report, which said that the program was highly valued by students, and that participants were well supported by the University.
