Artist to speak at World Mental Health Day event
A man who used art to help overcome depression will be among the guest speakers at a public World Mental Health Day event at the University of the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday 10 October.
Painter and sculptor Greg Wilson will discuss his battle with depression, after being involved in a series of motorcycle accidents, and explain how he turned his life around to the point where he now runs an art gallery in the Hunter Valley.
Mr Wilson, who is Lifeline Australia’s national patron, will join former Mental Health Council of Australia chief executive John Mendoza and USC’s Centre for Multicultural and Community Development director Narayan Gopalkrishnan in discussing mental health issues at the USC event.
The theme for World Mental Health Day 2007 is “Mental Health in a Changing World: The Impact of Culture and Diversity”.
Activities at USC will begin at 11am and include stalls, live music by Coast band OKA, food, guest presentations from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and an afternoon workshop on resilience.
