Treasurer to speak at State of the Region Conference
Queensland’s new Treasurer Andrew Fraser will be a special guest speaker at the third annual University of the Sunshine Coast-CEDA State of the Region Conference on Tuesday 30 October.
Mr Fraser, who as Local Government Minister earlier this year initiated the current round of local government amalgamations, will outline the State Government’s position concerning the new Sunshine Coast.
His address to the conference will be his first speech on the Coast as Treasurer.
The amalgamation of the three local councils into a regional council will be one of several key regional issues to be discussed at the conference which will have the theme: “Revelations: the new Sunshine Coast”.
The conference will feature more than 12 keynote speakers, the presentation of new research into housing affordability, future skills requirements and issues affecting seniors, as well as up-to-date information on developments across the Coast.
Another highlight will be a forum involving the Coast’s three current mayors and the transition committee which has been established to help merge the local councils.
The conference is expected to attract 200 people, including top decision-makers, researchers and strategists from the public and private sectors.
It will be co-hosted by USC and the Committee for Economic Development of Australia with support by companies Munro Thompson, Cadet, Investa and Parsons Brinckerhoff.
