Jen Hardman shaves off Jennifer Purse's hair for the Leukaemia Foundation fundraiser

14 March 2008

Agreeing to have your head shaved for charity is a courageous decision for a woman.

But it didn’t seem to daunt first-year University of the Sunshine Coast student Jennifer Purse, 54, who has courage by the bucket load.

Jennifer, who has worked in the telecommunications industry, has just started a Bachelor of Communication degree to boost her career opportunities.

She was the first student to step forward to have her head shaved yesterday when the USC Student Guild staged a World’s Greatest Shave fundraising event on campus for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Jennifer said she was motivated to take part in the World’s Greatest Shave because her husband had died from cancer last year.

She was one of about eight USC students and staff who lined up to lose their locks. Dozens more took the safer option of having their hair coloured.
