USC introduces new academic excellence scholarships
The University of the Sunshine Coast has this year introduced four new academic excellence scholarships worth $12,000 each.
Students starting their first undergraduate degree who gained an OP score of between 1 and 6 (or equivalent) are eligible to apply for the scholarships which have been established through the USC Foundation’s Building Excellence Campaign.
The closing date for applications is Tuesday 29 January.
These scholarships are among 181 scholarships and bursaries – worth a total of almost $600,000 – available at USC.
Most are equity scholarships and bursaries, which provide financial assistance for low-income students and those from other equity groups.
USC Scholarships Officer Kathryn Hughes said scholarships and bursaries provided an important boost for students in more ways than one.
“It gives them vital financial assistance but also encouragement, support and recognition of their achievements, particularly for the excellence scholarships,’ she said.
“It encourages them to keep excelling in their academic studies.”
Ms Hughes urged all new students at USC to attend a Fees and Financial Support for Students information night on Wednesday 23 January, 6-8pm, in Lecture Theatre 1.
She said the session would provide important advice on how to deal with the expenses involved in studying – including HECS fees – and would outline financial assistance opportunities.
“University staff will provide cost-saving tips and details about financial support, government assistance, bursaries and scholarships,” she said.
“We’ll look at Centrelink benefits that are available to support students, like Youth Allowance, Austudy and Low Income Health Care Cards.
“And we’ll talk about services provided by our Health and Well-Being Officer, such as financial counselling and student loans.”
