USC congratulates 2170 successful applicants
Almost 2200 people have been offered tertiary education places at the University of the Sunshine Coast starting Semester 1, 2008, and the figure is set to climb with a second round of offers being made on January 31.
This is the highest number of offers made by the University in its 11-year history, and is a five percent increase on last year.
USC has this year introduced new degree programs in Psychology, Paramedic Science, Occupational Therapy and Engineering, all of which have attracted strong interest.
The 2170 offers for places at USC include 1505 offers to Sunshine Coast applicants and 200 to Brisbane residents. The remaining offers are to applicants from regional Queensland and interstate.
The first round of offers was released on-line through QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre – www.qtac.edu.au) at 1am today (Thursday 10 January) and enrolment packs from USC will begin arriving in applicants’ mailboxes over the next few days.
Responding promptly to the offer pack will guarantee a place at USC in Semester 1 which begins February 25, and Orientation Week will be held the week prior (18-22 February).
Anyone who has applied to USC but does not receive an offer pack within the next few days should contact Tania Halliday at the University on 5430 2876.
USC’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Greg Hill said USC’s five percent increase in offers had defied a 10 percent downturn in university applications nationally.
“The record number of applications reflects the expanded range of degrees available as well as the recognition USC gained in 2007 for the excellence of its teaching and support for students,” he said.
“USC has invested in setting up key new professional programs in areas where the whole of the Sunshine Coast needs graduates, such as Psychology, Paramedic Science and Occupational Therapy.
“This expansion of high-demand new degree programs over the past few years has removed the necessity for Sunshine Coast residents to go somewhere else to do their degrees.
Professor Hill said university study was an important investment in the future.
“I congratulate all those applicants who have received an offer today,” he said. “I look forward to welcoming them to the University at the start of Orientation Week in February.
“Remember, this is just the first round of offers, so it is not too late to apply, particularly for those who were not aware of the broader range of degree programs which are available.”
Those keen to begin studying at USC this February can contact Tania Halliday on 5430 2876. Applications details also are available through QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre) at www.qtac.edu.au
