USC to celebrate International Women’s Day

The University of the Sunshine Coast will hold a special International Women’s Day celebration for staff and students tomorrow (Friday 7 March) between noon and 2pm.

The event will feature presentations in Lecture Theatre 6 (Building K) from noon to 1pm by three high-achieving USC staff members: Tourism lecturer and 1992 Olympic kayaker Gayle Mayes; Professor of Psychology and senior researcher Mary Katsikitis; and Director of Information Services Sandra Jeffries.

Ms Mayes also will present her 1992 Barcelona Olympic tracksuit and her Sydney 2000 Olympic Relay torch to the University.

The International Women’s Day celebration will feature live entertainment and a free sausage sizzle from 1pm in the USC Art Gallery courtyard. Entertainers will include a female tribal dance group and singer/guitarist Layla Klinkert.

The University also will celebrate receiving its fourth consecutive Employer of Choice for Women citation from the Federal Government’s Equal Opportunities for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA).

The prestigious award, announced on Tuesday, recognises the University’s efforts to increase the representation of women at all organisational levels and assist employees maintain work/life balance.

USC was one of only 10 Queensland organisations, and one of only 99 nationally, to receive the citation this year.
