Minister opens Business Accelerator
Queensland’s Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle has officially opened the Business Accelerator at the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Innovation Centre.
The Minister praised the University for its efforts in engaging with the local business community when she addressed the opening ceremony on Wednesday 6 August.
She said the State Government had provided $3.6 million towards helping USC establish the facility which will stimulate significant private sector investment in the region over the next decade.
The Accelerator will house up to 20 established technology and knowledge-based businesses and professional service firms at a time, making it a significant part of the Business and Technology Precinct being developed around USC at Sippy Downs.
Innovation Centre CEO Colin Graham said the Accelerator offered an integrated package of serviced office space, fast speed fibre access, meeting rooms and business development services.
“The businesses involved also will be looking to establish a relationship with the University, tapping into the talent of the University and employing students and graduates,” he said.
The Accelerator will complement the Innovation Centre’s successful Business Incubator which, over the past six years, has assisted 51 start-up businesses.
At the Accelerator launch, the Minister also is expected to announce funding for a major joint project involving the State Government, the University of the Sunshine Coast and several other organisations.
