USC Gallery to host Creative Generation
Dynamic art works by high school students from the Sunshine Coast and surrounding regions will open in an exhibition at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery on Thursday 21 August at 6pm.
Previously known as the Education Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art, the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art and Design recognises and promotes excellence in senior visual arts education throughout Queensland state and non-state schools.
Gallery Curator Dawn Oelrich said senior students from more than 20 high schools will display their artwork at the University Gallery. Many of those featured also will be selected to be exhibited in the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), Brisbane, in 2009.
“Being included in the regional exhibition in a public gallery is already a mark of excellence and we always find that high school student artists especially are courageous,” she said.
“Students in high schools are now working across several media, employing methods from traditional ceramic and sculpture to digital art, film, photography and installation.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the community to see first-class school student art, as well as an opportunity for the students to see their work presented in a public art gallery in the University environment.”
The exhibition will continue until Saturday 6 September and admission is free.
The USC Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays. The 2008 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by major sponsor coastline BMW.
