USC to hold engineering information evening

USC's Head of Engineering Dr Richard White

10 November 2008

The University of the Sunshine Coast will hold a special engineering information evening on Wednesday 19 November for those interested in studying engineering in 2009.

This event, from 6-7pm, will outline the diversity of engineering careers and the employment opportunities available for engineers in Australia and overseas.

USC’s Head of Engineering Dr Richard White said those attending would be able to talk one-on-one with academics, students and industry representatives from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Gympie Regional Council and engineering firm Worley Parsons.

Dr White said USC introduced Bachelor of Engineering degrees in Construction Management and in Water and Sustainable Resource Management this year in response to strong local demand for qualified engineers.

“Due to rapid population growth and the mounting pressure on infrastructure and sustainability in the region, expertise in engineering is becoming vital,” he said.

“Growing demands for graduates on the Sunshine Coast and a current global shortage of qualified engineering professionals is providing rewarding career pathways and job security.”

Dr White said the information evening also would outline a new component of distance education that will be provided through a cross-institutional arrangement with the University of Southern Queensland.

Bookings are essential by contacting USC’s School Liaison Officer Tegan Piggford on <+61 7 5459 4795>.
