World Environmental Day festival postponed to 21 June

USC will co-host the Sunshine Coast's celebration of World Environment Day on Saturday 21 June

30 May 2008

The Sunshine Coast’s World Environment Day festival that was planned for tomorrow (Saturday 31 May) at the University of the Sunshine Coast has been postponed due to wet weather.

The free community event that has been organised by the Sunshine Coast Environment Council, Sunshine Coast Regional Council, SEQ Catchments and the University will now be held on Saturday 21 June.

The festival will have the theme “Small footprints, big steps – our region's future” and will feature innovative green technologies, forums, workshops, live music and activities for children.

USC also will display information about its range of undergraduate and postgraduate study programs that focus on the environment.

Among them are the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science), the Bachelor of Engineering (Water and Sustainable Resource Management), and postgraduate programs in Climate Change Adaptation.

Environmental chemistry senior lecturer Dr Neil Tindale said the University was a fitting location for the event, as the campus had been developed with particular emphasis on environmental sensitivity and symmetry with the surrounding area.

“The fact that the University is providing a venue and co-hosting this event also demonstrates our commitment and support to this region, its environment, local businesses and the community.”
