Headstart evening for high school students
The University of the Sunshine Coast will run an information session about its popular Headstart program for senior high school students on Wednesday 10 September from 6.30pm.
The information session is for students who will be in Years 11 and 12 in 2009 and their parents. It will cover the program requirements, the costs involved and the scholarships available for Headstart applicants.
USC External Relations Coordinator Kylie Russell said Headstart was designed to create a seamless transition from school to university.
“Headstart students can complete accredited university courses in their area of interest while still at high school and they can extend their academic experiences with courses that count towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE),” she said.
“Headstart also gives you an idea of what university life is like and helps prepare you for future study.
“It provides guaranteed entry into most USC degrees if you successfully complete two courses within the Headstart program and obtain a QCE from your school.”
Ms Russell said more than 165 students from 30 high schools throughout the region had participated in Headstart in 2008.
To register for the Headstart event, email <schools@usc.edu.au> or call Tegan Piggford on 5459 4795.
Meanwhile, 18 students from 15 Sunshine Coast high schools received $375 Headstart scholarships at a special celebration at the University on Wednesday 3 September.
The event acknowledged the support of Headstart scholarship donors David Kirk of the Kirk Foundation, John Shadforth of The Encouragement Foundation and State Member for Kawana Steve Dickson.
