High school students gain Headstart scholarships
Seventeen students from 15 Sunshine Coast high schools recently received scholarships that will help provide a head start towards their university education.
The $375 scholarships were presented at a special University of the Sunshine Coast celebration of its popular Headstart program on Wednesday 3 September.
The event acknowledged the support of Headstart scholarship donors David Kirk of the Kirk Foundation, John Shadforth of The Encouragement Foundation and State Member for Kawana Steve Dickson.
The scholarship recipients were Archibald Bouchon-Small, Ashleigh Coleman, Kristopher Curd, Gaelen Dickson, Ezekiel Durkin, Simon Harloff, Ashlee Innes, Kelly Kerr, Josh McFarlane, Adele Packer, Brittany Parker, Laura Press, Thomas Redden, Aaron Scolyer, Jasmin Sommervelle, Ashley Van Woerkom and Thomas Waterman.
The Headstart program is designed to create a seamless transition from school to university allowing Year 11 and 12 students to complete accredited undergraduate university courses while still at school.
More than 165 students from 30 high schools throughout the region have participated in Headstart in 2008.
