Psychology is most popular mid-year degree
The University of the Sunshine Coast’s decision to offer psychology this year has found its mark with the degree attracting the highest number of new undergraduate students in USC’s mid-year intake.
USC launched its Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) degree this year to help cater for the growing demand for mental health services in the region.
The psychology program had 73 students enrolled from Semester 1, and a further 26 students are set to join their ranks when Semester 2 begins later this month.
The University has made almost 500 offers of places for students in a range of degree programs for Semester 2, and many of these students will participate in Orientation activities next week (14-18 July).
The most exciting day of Orientation will be Tuesday 15 July which will feature plenty of academic and social events, as well as an official welcome by USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Thomas AM from 11.15am.
The day also will feature entertainment, Welcome Day markets and a barbecue.
On Wednesday 16 July, students will take part in a fun “World Cup” soccer tournament in the USC Sports Stadium from 2-4pm, with students representing their country of origin.
Throughout the week, new students will gain information about their degrees, learn some handy study tips, tour the campus, and take part in library and computer network tutorials.
For those new to the Coast, USC will hold a special bus tour on Friday designed to answer students’ questions about local services and opportunities.
The University also will hold a special weekend Orientation camp at USC’s Dilli Village Environmental Education Camp on Fraser Island for new students to get to know each other and their lecturers while enjoying the island’s many features.
