Treasurer to open USC's Health and Sport Centre

USC's new Health and Sport Centre

18 July 2008

Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan will officially open the University of the Sunshine Coast’s impressive $13.8 million Health and Sport Centre on Saturday 26 July.

The Treasurer will then inspect the building's world-class facilities for teaching and research.

The five-storey Health and Sport Centre will be used to train many of the Sunshine Coast’s future health professionals and boost community health.

USC's Head of School of Health and Sport Sciences Professor John Lowe said the centre contained state-of-the-art testing and research laboratories, a gymnasium and purpose-built teaching spaces for a range of degrees.

These include biomedical science, paramedic science, occupational therapy, nursing science, sport science, nutrition and dietetics, psychology and public health.

A key feature of the new centre is a public psychology clinic.

Construction of the Health and Sport Centre has been funded by government and private funds, including donations to USC’s Building Excellence Campaign.

It was built by Evans Harch Constructions in nine months.
