Alyce Biggs
Bachelor of Arts (Computer-Based Art and Design) graduate
A reputation for dynamic graphic design has earned USC graduate Alyce Biggs a position at one of the Sunshine Coast’s fastest-growing design firms, Chilli Group.
Chilli Group management approached Alyce after hearing about the work she had done while at university.
“Employers are impressed with the quality of students’ work from USC, as we cover a range of tasks and skills—everything from corporate identities, logo design, brochures, packaging, invitation design, web design, animation, flash and HTML,” Alyce says.
Alyce enjoys her new role as a Graphic Designer, and the responsibilities it brings.
“As it is my first year out of university, I thought I may be restricted to basic design work. But at Chilli, I am very fortunate to be working from the start to the finish of the process,” she says.
“My first job was working on a 50-page magazine. I created advertisements, designed the page layout and placed the editorials.
“I also meet with clients to discuss their design needs and what they want to convey through advertising to help increase their sales. It is a great experience.”
Alyce believes her degree program, combined with work experience opportunities, provided the skills she needed for professional success.
“I loved my course and got so much out of it; being part of the AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association), having our student exhibitions, going on excursions and work placement,” she says.
“USC is one of the only universities that offer web experience, which is a real advantage.
“Technology is growing so rapidly, and there is such a high demand for web designers, that companies really value the knowledge you have.”
Alyce studied a Bachelor of Arts (Computer-Based Art and Design)—this program is now the Bachelor of Computer-based Design.
