Ann-Lisa Nielsen
Home country: Denmark
Program: Study Abroad
Ann-Lisa Nielsen wanted to complement the International Management degree she is undertaking at home in Denmark with an international academic experience in Australia.
“I have always had a huge wish to go to Australia and this was a great opportunity to go to USC,” Ann-Lisa says.
Ann-Lisa says USC offers a diverse range of course choices to meet her needs. She is now studying courses in accounting, finance and management, and is particularly enjoying the course Contemporary Accounting Issues.
“It is a course that has challenged me and has been very interesting,” she says.
“I am sure I will be able to use it in the future.”
Ann-Lisa says the study environment at USC is good, and that she has enjoyed attending lectures.
“I have had great experiences with the lecturers who have been very good at explaining and making sure everyone understands,” she says.
USC International Relations staff have also helped Ann-Lisa.
“The staff are happy to help with anything from arranging doctors visits, to helping with personal travel plans and arranging a lot of great activities,” she says.
Ann-Lisa has participated in a number of social activities organised by International Relations staff.
“I have participated in the Welcome Breakfast and the Fraser Island weekend, which have been very good and interesting, and have helped me to meet other international students,” she says.
Living in student accommodation has helped Ann-Lisa to meet new people and make new friends, helping her to adjust to life so far away from home.
“It has been very helpful to be integrated into the community and (student accommodation) has given me friends outside of my specific program of study,” Ann-Lisa says.
“It is nice to have people around you, both international students who are in the same situation, and Australians who can help with any questions.”
Ann-Lisa says her studies at USC will definitely help if she chooses to work in international business.
“My English has improved a lot . . . and I have firsthand experience within another culture—an English speaking culture—so that is very good,” she says.
Further study at USC is a goal for Ann-Lisa.
“I have already been looking at my possibilities of coming back to do further studies,” she says.
“Not only do I love USC but I have made so many new friends.”
Ann-Lisa recommends USC for its quality teaching, good study environment and comfortable weather.
“So far I have only had positive experiences at USC,” she says.
“Even though the University is relatively new, it has been very good at creating a good study environment with experienced teachers, and thereby providing a good level of education.
“There is also a very good international environment—and of course, the nice weather!”
