Working for a firm acclaimed for its promotion of work/life balance was the realisation of a professional dream for Maxine.
Maxine works with a team of auditing analysts within professional services multinational Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Brisbane. With her employer operating in over 140 countries, Maxine has a world of career opportunities at her door.
Maxine was one of five people selected for a position at Deloitte, from over 350 initial applicants. "We had to apply on-line, then I was selected for a three-hour management game-style interview," says Maxine. "I then had to complete an aptitude test, before being invited for a second interview with two of the firm's partners."
Maxine says that performing client audits on site means that no two days are the same. "I particularly enjoy the teamwork, and the opportunity to travel while meeting clients," says Maxine.
"My degree was an integral part of my entrance into a Chartered Accounting firm," says Maxine. "If I can offer any advice to people considering studying accounting, it's that a genuine interest in commerce is a great foundation. Also, you have to enter into your degree knowing what you to achieve from it."
A Sunshine Coast local, Maxine says that having the University of the Sunshine Coast on her doorstep meant that she could attend university while keeping the support structure of her family and friends around her.
"Attending university used to mean leaving the Coast, which is not always a viable option," says Maxine. "The University offered me one-to-one communication with my lecturers and small tutorial groups, so I could have the best learning outcomes."
