Bachelor of Science (Public Health) graduate
With a passion for early detection and cancer prevention,
Rochelle Wood has found her dream job at the Queensland Cancer Fund
(QCF).
The Bachelor of Science (Public Health) graduate says voluntary
work experience with QCF during her degree led to paid employment
as a Prevention and Early Detection Coordinator, a position she has
filled on the Sunshine Coast for the last seven months.
"I provide education to the community, schools and parents on
the prevention and early detection of cancer," she says.
"I am passionate about the work the QCF does with SunSmart
issues and I feel very passionately about educating the community
about how they can prevent sun damage and skin cancer."
Rochelle also coordinates the QCF's Community Speakers Program,
offering free adult information sessions to community groups and
workplaces in the Sunshine and Fraser Coast regions.
She also liaises with the media about important cancer and
tobacco messages and health promotion days.
Rochelle says her degree has been integral to her success in the
workplace.
"Health promotion is an important part of my work and I gained
most of my knowledge through my degree," she says.
"The fantastic thing about the degree is that it allows you to
undertake strands in other faculties, and I undertook several
business strands that have been of great use."
