Ellen Rogers
Bachelor of Nursing Science student
After kick-starting her university studies with Orientation and an enabling course, Nursing Science student Ellen Rogers says her first semester at USC has been “heaps of fun”.
“I chose USC because I grew up on the Sunshine Coast and I love it—I wouldn’t imagine studying anywhere else,” she says.
Ellen, who achieved an OP4 at school, says she chose to enrol in the Bachelor of Nursing Science to make a difference in peoples’ lives.
“I remember seeing the nursing prac labs (at Orientation) and being really excited about starting,” she says.
Ellen has now turned that excitement into top marks at USC, with a Grade Point Average of 6.25 in her first semester. She has already set her sights on further tertiary study.
“At the moment, I am really interested in completing a Master of Midwifery after I finish my current (undergraduate) course,” she says.
Ellen says her transition from high school to university was made easier by undertaking an enabling course in chemistry before starting her degree.
Regular interaction with USC teaching staff has also made for a “much more enjoyable” university experience.
“It’s a relatively small university compared to the big Brisbane ones, and because of this it’s easier to get to know your tutors, and for them to get to know you,” Ellen says.
