Leigh Murray put her Japanese language skills to good use when she studied at Japan’s Kobe College as part of her USC degree.
Leigh, who is studying a Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Arts, says she chose to study at USC because of the opportunity to participate in the GO Program.
She says her overseas experience will assist her in becoming a Japanese teacher in Australia.
“By coming to Japan I can pass on customs, and other little things that are not often put in textbooks, to enhance my students’ learning of the Japanese language and culture,” she says.
“I also believe that by coming here I will be improving my reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, and will have a better grasp on the Japanese language.”
Leigh says she would recommend the GO Program to others.
“It’s a chance to get to see another country and its culture while you learn,” she says.
“It is one of the best experiences of my life. You get to make new friends, and I got to put what I have been learning for nearly 10 years into practice. It’s great!”
