Linda Schmid
Home country: Switzerland
Program: Bachelor of Business
When Switzerland’s Linda Schmid came to Australia, she not only gained practical knowledge through her studies at USC, but workplace experiences through internships in two prestigious firms.
Linda completed an internship at DaimlerChrysler Financial Services in Melbourne, before taking on an international communications role with Sydney-based publicity and creative firm Blue Pedal. At Blue Pedal, she managed communications for both a major Australian swimwear label and Miss World Australia.
Linda, who speaks German, French and English fluently, says it is important to improve international dialogue across cultures.
“That’s the reason I chose to study international business, marketing and public relations, and at USC I have contact with people from all around the world,” she says.
Linda initially came to USC for just one semester, but liked it so much that she stayed.
“I would definitely recommend a study abroad/exchange program because it opens the minds of students and broadens cultural knowledge and understanding,” Linda says.
“It is not only the Australian culture that influences an international student’s life, but also the culture of the many other different nations present on campus.”
Linda says she appreciated the “practical approach” the University of the Sunshine Coast took in relation to teaching and learning, and found the assistance offered by USC staff to be extremely helpful.
“The International Relations staff have been absolutely amazing,” Linda says.
“They’ve always been helpful and friendly and organised all the information I’ve ever needed.
“And the Library is absolutely fantastic! It holds any book I’ve needed for my studies and the electronic (journal) database is quite good as well.”
