Marjorie Blowers
Bachelor of Human Services graduate
After 12-years in the horticulture industry, Marjorie Blowers decided to make a career change.
Now, as a Bachelor of Human Services graduate, Marjorie is using the skills she gained during her degree to help other USC students get the most out of their studies.
As the Equity and Diversity Officer in USC Student Services, Marjorie works on projects that support student equity and equal opportunity on campus.
“This includes promoting social justice principles, the value of diversity and inclusiveness, and providing professional support to improve educational outcomes, academic progress and retention rates for students from defined equity target groups,” Marjorie says.
“I provide professional support and advice to ensure the University’s procedures and practices reflect current anti-discrimination, human rights and equal opportunity legislation; develop and deliver awareness-raising programs to inform students of their rights and responsibilities; and administer the student loan program to provide both emergency and academic financial aid.”
Marjorie says her greatest personal achievement was being awarded the USC Chancellor’s Medal on graduation, in recognition of academic achievement and contributions to student and community welfare. She now plans to undertake further study at the University in the areas of social work and special education.
Marjorie has the following advice for prospective USC students:
“Come and speak to support staff at USC, and pick a degree that is flexible so you can change areas once you find where you belong. USC is the best place to be!”
