Nikki Bird
GO Program participant
USC graduate Nikki Bird’s GO Program experience has opened the door to opportunities she never thought possible—including an invitation to complete further study overseas.
Nikki says she was surprised when University of Wyoming (UWYO) Professor Stephen Williams contacted her to offer a scholarship to do a masters program—two years after she first visited UWYO as part of the GO Program.
“I was shocked and flattered that Professor Williams remembered me after two years,” Nikki says.
“I had planned to do a masters degree in soil science back in 2005, but it didn’t eventuate then.”
Nikki says the invitation was too good to refuse, and she is now completing her postgraduate studies in the USA. Her full scholarship covers tuition, fees, health insurance and a stipend of US$1,100 per month.
Nikki’s advice to students who are considering studying overseas through the GO Program is to “do it”.
“Seriously, it’s just the best experience and it’s worth it,” she says. “It’s hard when you’re trying to save money but it’s definitely worth every cent. Who knows what will come out of it?”
