Laura believes that personal attention from her lecturers at USC was instrumental to her success.
“There was great support at USC – I had excellent lecturers who were very accessible and went above and beyond the call of duty,” she says.
This support extended outside the classroom and led her to a sought-after opportunity at CITEC.
“One of my lecturers at USC told me about CITEC’s graduate program,” Laura says. “There were just four positions available and I was competing against 50 applicants for the position.”
Laura took a proactive approach to making the most of her study opportunities during her time at USC.
“I had a lot of opportunities in my studies – for example, I participated in SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise), which involved a trip to Melbourne promoting USC and the Sunshine Coast,” she says.
“I was also Vice Chair of the Student Guild.”
Laura has pursued similar opportunities post-university. She is the Deputy Chair of Women in Works and Vice Chair of the Australian Computer Society. She is also a member of USC’s Industry Advisory Group.
After just one year into the traditionally two-year graduate program at CITEC, Laura was promoted to Business Continuity Manager.
“I’ve progressed very quickly to my current level because I know that you can’t wait to be promoted. You have to manage your own career,” she says.
