Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology graduate

Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology (BICT) graduate Barnaby Heaton says work experience and a broad-knowledge base are the keys to career success.

Awarded a highly competitive graduate position with Heritage Building Society in Toowoomba, Barnaby will spend the next two years as an IT Operations Graduate.

He will absorb as much information about the Society and its IT operations as he can, before moving to a position that suits his interests and the Society’s needs.

Barnaby credits his success in the workplace to the BICT program’s broad coverage, and the opportunity to undertake an internship as part of the degree.

As well as working at the USC IT Helpdesk while at university, Barnaby also accepted an offer to complete an industry internship in the Northern Territory.

“I spent three months working with BHP on Groote Eylandt, in the Gulf of Carpentaria,” he says.

“I feel the fact that I had some relevant, real-world experience went a long way to helping me land the job (with Heritage).”
