Maya Gurry
Bachelor of Arts (Communication) graduate
Having established a flourishing public relations career in South Africa and England, Maya Gurry decided on a change of scenery and relocated to the Sunshine Coast in 2003.
She enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts and majored in Public Relations and Communication to convert her South African PR qualifications to an Australian degree.
"It was a wonderful experience - I met some great people, both lecturers and students, and I still love the kangaroos, even two years later!" says Maya. "I found that being a bit older and more informed about life and my career choice, I could make the most of each experience on campus."
After graduating from the University, Maya established her own PR business.
"It seemed like the next step for me," says Maya.
Maya's business, Fresh PR, focuses on media relations, event management, copy writing, internal communications and crisis communications, based on her 12 years of industry experience gained at Volkswagen South Africa, Marks and Spencers London, and TrustMarque International.
"I wanted something diverse rather than focusing on just one product or brand. Starting your own business offers great opportunities with all the excitement of doing something different every day."
