Bachelor of Arts graduate

ABC radio journalist Nikole Jacobi says USC is the reason she has been able to forge ahead with her dream career.

The Bachelor of Arts graduate, who majored in Journalism, says an internship she undertook as part of her studies gave her the opportunity to make her mark in broadcast journalism.

“My internship at ABC Coast FM gave me the insight into what the job of a broadcast journalist involved, and from then on I was hooked,” Nikole says.

“After I completed my internship a casual position became available, and I applied and was successful.”

Nikole says there are a number of reasons why she chose to study at USC.

“The fact that the Journalism major only took a limited number of students each term was the main attraction, as other universities tend to graduate more students than there are jobs in the media industry,” Nikole explains.

“The University was also close to home, and the lecturers and tutors are specialists in their fields. Also, because of the small class sizes, they have more time for all of the students.”

Nikole’s job entails all facets of the role of a broadcast journalist, including sourcing and writing news stories, conducting interviews, using audio equipment and reading live news bulletins.

“I love working for the ABC because I have the opportunity to communicate all sides of the issues that matter most,” Nikole says.
