USC to hold National Sorry Day event
University of the Sunshine Coast students and staff will lend their hands … and their feet … to help produce a National Sorry Day mural on Monday 26 May.
USC’s Indigenous Services Officer Corey Czok said a footprint and handprint painting on calico would be created from noon to 2pm on Monday as the University commemorates Australia’s first National Sorry Day in 1998.
Mr Czok said the USC event, which will feature a special forum from 10am and a sausage sizzle from noon, would help promote understanding about the lives of indigenous Australians in today’s society.
“It will support actively pursuing justice, recognition and healing for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” he said.
“After the Prime Minister’s apology at the beginning of the year, this year’s commemorations are expected to bigger than previous years.”
The public is welcome to attend the National Sorry Day event. The forum will be held in USC’s Lecture Theatre 3 and the Brasserie.
