Big Kart Track managing director Ferre De Deyne

4 April 2008

Some of the Sunshine Coast’s top tourism leaders will share their wisdom and experience at special workshops for University of the Sunshine Coast students over the next month.

Eight business operators will impart their knowledge about the industry to help boost the employment prospects of students in four weekly “Capabilities for the Tourism Industry” seminars to be held from noon to 2pm on Wednesdays from April 16.

The seminars are part of the University’s innovative Employability Program which has, for the past month, also featured guest industry speakers on issues like developing resume and interview skills, leadership abilities and influencing skills.

The tourism seminars will be facilitated by USC Tourism lecturer David Foster and John Sereni of Tourism Sunshine Coast and are open to any students interested in careers in tourism.

Guest speakers will include Tourism Sunshine Coast CEO John Fitzgerald, Hyatt Regency Coolum’s human resources director Caroline Sorby, UnderWater World general manager Julie Cullen, Big Kart Track managing director Ferre De Deyne, Catalina Cruises Noosa owner Beven Inwood, The Noosa Longweekend general manager Gail Hewton, Caloundra Events manager Brian Cisceau and Halse Lodge owner Drew Pearson.

Two other Employability Program series which began last month are still running, with one workshop remaining on “Maximising your success through Great Influencing Skills” on Monday 7 April and two more workshops on “Being a Transformational Leader” on 15 and 24 April.

Guest speakers for these workshops include Anna Searle of Inspired Business Solutions, Kim Serafini of I Am Gr8ful, Nicholle Sparkes of Bovis Lend Lease, Mark Sutton of Solutions for Success and Chris Dixon of Six Degrees.
