Almost 5,000 school children are set to visit the University of the Sunshine Coast on Monday and Tuesday next week (2-3 June) for the annual youth literature festival, Voices on the Coast.

Students in Years 5-12 from across the Coast will attend workshops and lectures with top international and Australian authors, illustrators and poets at the festival, co-presented by Immanuel Lutheran College and USC.

The festival will feature presentations by the authors, book signings, and interactive poetry presentations.

One of the biggest drawcards will be Wendy Orr who is most famous for Nim’s Island, the first Australian children’s book to become a Hollywood feature film.

Wendy will present lectures from 9.15-10am, 12.12.45pm and 1.15-2pm on Monday and three further lectures on Tuesday.

Festival coordinator Kelly Dunham said the two days at USC were a major part of the week-long annual festival, which this year won the 2008 Maroochy Council Australia Day Award for the Community Event of the Year.

The festival also includes an expanded range of literary events for adults at venues across the Coast.

Tickets and festival program information can be obtained by calling the Voices office on 5477 3437 or at <www.immanuel.qld.edu.au/voices>.
