Accounting students hold careers forum
The academic year has only just begun, but the University of the Sunshine Coast is already getting down to business in finding work placements and employment for its accounting students.
About 60 second-year and third-year students attended an Accounting Students’ Careers Forum at the USC Function Hall which featured displays by 14 local businesses and addresses by several industry and University speakers.
The event was held to give students insights into accounting firms and expose them to possible career opportunities including project work, work experience, practicums, internships and employment.
It coincided this week with the start of three lecture series for USC business students featuring some inspirational Sunshine Coast businesspeople.
Among the guest speakers are Sunshine Coast Business Academy principal Leigh Rachow, Reed Property Group Human Resources manager Laura Fox, Changeworks team facilitator Clare Edwards, author Barry Bull, Global Communications sponsorship consultant Dr Simon T Hay, ABC Coast FM presenter Cam Young, HOT 91 FM sales manager Paula Kerr, business consultant Dr Lesley Willcoxson, former Queensland Deputy Premier John Sheldon, Sunshine Coast 2006 Businesswoman of the Year Debra Robinson and psychologist Todd Zemek.
The lecture series of Teamwork for the Workplace, Public Speaking, and Maximising Your Influence will continue each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday respectively for the next three to five weeks.
