USC’s Orientation Week into full swing

15 February 2010

Orientation Week at the University of the Sunshine Coast will get into full swing tomorrow (Tuesday 16 February) with a range of social and serious activities, campus tours, markets and plenty of entertainment.

Thousands of new students are expected to attend the Official Welcome Ceremony at USC’s Sports Stadium from 9-10am.

This ceremony will feature the final welcome speech delivered by the University’s founding Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Thomas AM, who will retire this year after 16 years guiding USC.

Other activities tomorrow include some fun “Boot Camp” obstacle course races in the Brasserie Courtyard from noon-1pm, and a World Cup Soccer Challenge from 2-4pm on playing fields near the USC Stadium.

The University of the Sunshine Coast will welcome about 3,200 new students this Semester, an increase of almost 20 percent on Semester 1, 2009.

Orientation highlights this week will include the annual Great Court Race on Wednesday 17 February at 12.30pm (weather permitting), live entertainment at noon from Tuesday to Thursday at the Art Gallery piazza, and a “Gourmet Survivor” challenge on Thursday at noon, which will test how well students can stomach unconventional cooking.
