Health and Sport Centre
The University of the Sunshine Coast has commenced construction of the Health and Sport Centre, which is being built alongside USC's Indoor Sports Stadium. The five-storey facility will house:
- specialised teaching and research space for the delivery of new programs such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychology
- a fitness centre
- office space for public and private allied health organisations
The Health and Sport Centre will provide numerous benefits for the Sunshine Coast community and will become the focal point for the developing USC Health and Sport Precinct.
Construction is scheduled to be completed for the start of Semester 2, 2008 courses. A live-feed webcam provides an up-to-date view of the construction progress.
Construction update
As of 29 April 2008:
- Structural walls, columns and all suspended slabs complete
- Roof structure complete
- Wall framing started 10 April and is on-going
- Aluminium windows - began installation on 8 April and is on-going
- Kitchen setout and framing began 10 April
- The Project remains a fortnight behind schedule due to inclement weather.
As of 25 March 2008:
- Steelwork for the roof framing has begun to be erected
- Slabs for all levels have been poured (ground - level 4)
- The Project remains 15 days behind schedule due to inclement weather.
As of 26 February 2008:
- Formwork for level 4 floor slab complete
- Level 4 slab to be poured 3 March
- Columns and block work, level 4 to roof, to commence 5 March
- Due to ongoing inclement weather, the construction program is currently 15 days behind schedule. This time will be regained during other phases of the program.
- Date of completion remains scheduled for end of June 2008.
As of 25 January 2008:
- Slab for level 2 has been poured
- Columns for level 3 are poured
- Slab for level 3 will be poured early February
- Currently 10 days behind schedule due to wet weather. It is expected that time will be regained during other phases of the project, ensuring the Centre is completed as scheduled.
As of 27 November 2007:
- Site establishment commenced on 15 October 2007
- Piling commenced 17 October and was completed 20 October 2007
- Groundworks for footings commenced 22 October 2007
- Formwork for the level 1 slab is proceeding
- Currently ahead of schedule

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations have contributed a combined total of A$6 million to the construction of the Health and Sport Centre, under the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 Capital Development Pool funding programs.
The University Foundation is aiming to raise an additional A$3.5 million from private funding under the Building Excellence Campaign.
