Staff development

The University is committed to providing a comprehensive range of staff development programs and activities. A staff development calendar is circulated each month during semester. To register your interest or for enquiries regarding any staff development activities email staffdevt@usc.edu.au.

More information about some of the opportunities available is outlined in these policies:

  • Staff Development Policy
One of the University's priorities is to attract, retain and develop excellent staff as the achievement of the University's Mission depends on the performance and contribution of all staff. Staff development plays a significant role in attracting, developing and retaining excellent staff.

  • Professional Development Program (PDP)
PDP provides opportunities to undertake particular projects such as external research and visiting appointments that contribute to an individual's professional development and the achievement of the University's strategic goals.

Staff development programs and activities include:

  • Sessional Staff Development/Induction Day - Monday, 18 February 2008
Each year during Orientation week our Staff Development/Induction Day for sessional teaching and research staff is held. The aims of the program are to:
    • encourage and support effective learning and teaching practices
    • foster commitment to the University's programs and courses and
    • recognise the contribution of sessional staff.
  • Job rotation
From time-to-time, staff may wish to change their jobs within the University. Job rotation, which represents a step in a career path and career development, occurs when two staff exchange jobs or more than two staff rotate their jobs in a sequential process.

The report on Learning and Teaching Staff Development for 2006-2007 has more information on staff development and activities.
