Acknowledgement of traditional custodians

The University of the Sunshine Coast acknowledges the Gubbi Gubbi people as the traditional custodians of the land on which the campus stands, and recognises the strength, resilience and capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in this land.

The University is committed to advancing human rights within a tolerant and inclusive environment, in which respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is fundamental. This commitment is demonstrated through:

  • the USC Reconciliation Action Plan (2012-2014), guiding the University's relationships, respect, opportunities and progress reporting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • the Indigenous student support program, delivering a range of activities to provide access to education and support the retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • the Buranga Centre, providing resources and facilities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
  • the annual Indigenous Education Symposium, facilitating discussion on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and cultural awareness
