USC Alumni Challenge Match

USC pool

We made it! Congratulations USC Alumni on reaching the $10,000 Challenge Match goal in donations and pledges by 30 June 2011.

Your support will be matched by an additional $80,000 from Foundation Board members, which means over $90,000 will go towards the USC Pool.

The 10–lane, 50m Olympic-sized pool is another important facility on campus for our students and the community.

Thank you USC Alumni for your generous support in making this happen.

To make a donataion or pledge towards the USC Pool call the Foundation on +61 7 5430 1104.

More information about the Alumni Challenge Match

Why does USC need an Aquatic Centre – aren’t there plenty of pools around?

The USC Aquatic Centre is not just another swimming pool. It is planned to be built in two phases, beginning with the Olympic Sized pool (10 lanes, 50 metres).

This pool, to be located in the heart of USC’s Health and Sport Precinct, will house specialised research equipment for use by students and academics across growing health and sport disciplines.

A purpose-built research and training facility will benefit not only our academic community, but will also attract unique opportunities for the Sunshine Coast, and national and international partnerships.

It will help improve water knowledge (e.g. swimming instruction, surf lifesaving) and provide broad community benefit (e.g., water-based therapy for ageing, rehabilitation).

Importantly, the convenience of a swimming pool on campus will be a welcome benefit for USC staff and students.

Who are the Foundation Board Members, and why do they want us to donate to the Aquatic Centre?

The Foundation Board Members are community representatives who advise on USC’s fundraising and alumni relations, as well as the USC Art Gallery.

Leadership pledges toward the Alumni Challenge Match have been made by Board Members Jocelyn Walker and Hall Contracting (facilitated by Cameron Hall).

Other members have also generously pledged to the matching fund to bring its value to $80,000.

In 2010 and 2011, the Foundation Board’s top priority was to raise $300,000 in community gifts for the USC Aquatic Centre. It is hoped that the Challenge Match will help get USC over the line.

Will I find out if alumni hit the $10,000 goal?

An announcement on the results will be sent out via the alumni email newsletter “Connected”, as well as other communications.

If you’re not currently receiving the newsletter, please ensure we have your current email address by updating us at alumni@usc.edu.au.

Will I be recognised somewhere if I participate in the Alumni Challenge Match?

Yes, in the following ways (unless you request anonymity):

Donors of $1,000 or greater: you will be featured prominently on a permanent plaque at the new Aquatic Centre, and also listed for one year as a member of the Chancellor’s Associates, on the donor recognition wall in the lobby of Building C (the Chancellery).

Donors of $250 or greater: if you graduated in 2001 or later, this gift will qualify you as a member of the Chancellor’s Associates G.O.L.D. (GOLD = Graduates Of the Last Decade). You will receive the same recognition as listed above.

Keep in mind that you can pledge now and spread your gift over two years—the whole gift will count towards the matching fund.

All gifts of any amount are sincerely appreciated, especially with such a powerful Matching Fund up for grabs.

Can I see and use the Aquatic Centre once it’s complete?

Yes. All donors will be invited to the “Pool Party” celebration in late 2011, once the Aquatic Centre is complete.

The pool will be available for community use once opened.

I want to participate to help get the Matching Fund but now is not a good time for me to donate.

You can pledge a gift before 30 June, and pay it off on your preferred schedule up to 31 December 2012.

Your entire pledge will count towards the $10,000 alumni goal.

What if I pledge or give to the Pool after 30th June 2011?

Gifts towards Phase I of the Aquatic Centre are welcome at any time through the end of 2012.

You can pledge a future gift (i.e. payable in 2012) – if you make your pledge before 30th June, it will count toward the $10,000 goal and potentially attract matching funds.

If you give after 30th June 2011 and you have not pledged, your gift will not count toward the goal and not attract matching funds.

I’d like to give to a different area of the University (other than the Aquatic Centre). Can my gift count toward the $10,000 goal and help attract matching funds?

USC and the Foundation Board is sincerely appreciative of all gifts and encourages support to any and all areas of the University.

These gifts make an important impact every single day. However this special Challenge Match is focused only on the Aquatic Centre – so only gifts and pledges to that project through 30 June will count toward the $10,000 goal.
