Engagement
Engagement is a term used to describe the process and range of activities where the University interacts, connects and collaborates with its stakeholders to achieve wider benefits through its actions.
A central focus
The University's vision statement and Strategic Plan highlight the priority that USC places on engagement. Quite simply, engagement is at the heart of all that the University does.
The University's Pro Vice-Chancellor (Engagement) also takes responsibility for University Foundation and Alumni, and the Innovation Centre.
Engagement in action
Engagement activities occur daily, in a variety of forms and across all areas of the University. Some key actions are:
- Long term and productive partnerships in areas of research and innovation, governance, education partnerships, including other Universities, TAFEs and schools, business partnerships, community partnerships and environmental partnerships further both the interests of our partners and the University's strategic priorities.
- Courses and programs are designed in consultation with industry to meet current and future needs.
- University research is focussed in the areas of sustainability and genecology and is conducted with professional, industry and advisory groups.
- Shared jointly-funded infrastructure supports the needs of the Sunshine Coast. Such facilities include the Psychology Clinic, health and sports facilities, Library and Art Gallery.
- USC works closely with schools and guidance officers to provide pathways to tertiary education.
- Scholarships, bursaries and prizes are funded by the community and industry to increase access to tertiary education by equity groups.
- The Innovation Centre advances the knowledge economy and supports entrepreneurship locally.
- The University supports and hosts events including industry forums, open days, community events, cultural activities, professional development events, professional short courses and networking events for community benefit and professional development.
- Work Integrated Learning opportunities link businesses with USC students for work placements, internships, work experience and practical industry based projects and graduate employment. Businesses are able to advertise vacancies at no charge using the University's Career Hub.
- Giving to USC through the University Foundation.
- Maintaining contact with USC Graduates or Alumni.
- Industry and members of the community are actively involved in learning and teaching at the University and student support activities.
Measured results and impact
The University's success in it's engagement activity is best illustrated through its regional impacts. These measures highlight the success of the University's efforts to engage locally to impact positively on the Sunshine Coast region.
