Environmental partnerships

A core focus of the University is environmental sustainability, supported through a number of partnerships and initiatives:

  • USC undertakes research and education activities on Fraser Island, operating Dilli Village Research and Learning Centre and working with Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village.
  • USC is affiliated with the Smart Water Research Centre, which is a state-of-the-art research facility offering cutting-edge water research equipment focused on microbiology, environmental toxicology and chemical diagnostics.
  • USC is home to a National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited water testing facility, Analytical Services, which services a local, regional and state-wide client base.
  • USC has a long-standing agreement with Australia Zoo to collaborate on research projects and share expertise.
  • USC worked with a local developer and the Sunshine Coast Council to translocate endangered coastal healthland flora onto campus from a nearby development site. 
  • USC is supported by the Commonwealth Government in delivering climate change professional development in partnership with the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand (EIANZ).
  • USC has a partnership with Sunshine Coast Council and Queensland Transport (Translink) to deliver improved public transport to the University and the broader community via the USC bus interchange, reducing traffic and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • USC's Sustainability Research Centre undertakes research activities with a variety of partners.
  • The Sunshine Coast World Environment Day Festival is held on campus as a partnership between USC, Sunshine Coast Council and the Sunshine Coast Environment Council.
