A student undergoes athlete testing in the CHASE laboratory.

The Centre for Healthy Activities, Sport and Exercise (CHASE) is a nationally accredited research centre that specialises in two research strengths:

  1. Preventative health and rehabilitation, through physical activity, exercise, dietary intake and cognitive strategies
  2. Understanding and enhancing sports performance

CHASE undertakes a variety of research projects and in 2011 was successful in gaining one grant of $1,125,000 from Swimming Australia to conduct research in Swimming Australia’s High Performance Paralympic Research Centre.

CHASE also undertakes consultancies and tenders, conducts short courses and conferences and contributes to policy debate in areas such as biomechanical assessment, physiological profiling, sports coach education, and the implementation of healthy programs.

CHASE has several industry partnerships including linkages as part of the new Aquatic Centre development, including further agreements with Swimming Australia, the Australian and International Paralympic Committees, Sport and Recreation Queensland, Golf Australia etc. This new Aquatic Centre, located on campus will enable further expertise of CHASE researchers, to offer the Sunshine Coast Community further innovative and flexible programs for sports performance and rehabilitation.
