Otto Nothling (2005) Cricket and Rugby

Otto Nothling

Born in Maleny, Otto Nothling was a dual international for Australia in cricket and rugby—one of only two men to have achieved that feat.

Otto left Queensland to study medicine at the University of Sydney and made his first class cricket debut with NSW in 1992/23 and played one Test match for Australia against England in 1928.

He played cricket for Queensland in 1928/29 and later became the Queensland Cricket Association president. From 1921 to 1924, Otto was the NSW Waratahs fullback, playing 19 Tests.

In those days, the NSW rugby side was accorded Test status because there was no rugby in Queensland. He was voted as one of the top 100 Wallabies of all time.
