Ms Rama Brierty’s first language is Bahasa Indonesian, she is a NAATI qualified (Indonesian) interpreter, and she has taught Indonesian language at USC since 2000. Ms Brierty is president of the Sunshine Coast Indonesian Community, and she has worked on many Indonesian community development projects in this area.
Ms Brierty has worked for USC International Development since its inception in 2008, and has undertaken key roles on approximately 25 projects since that time. In her role as Project Officer, Rama contributes to the identification, research, design and implementation programs. This includes investigating project opportunities, contributing to project design, compiling project and budget proposals, contract negotiation, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and final funds acquittal and reporting.
Rama conducts in-country, pre-course briefings for participants, including explaining the cultural differences that participants should expect whilst they are in Australia, also about keeping safe, and course structure/content. She also provides a high level of practical, emotional, cultural and pastoral support for program participants whilst they are in Australia, including a 24-hour on-call emergency service, and ensures participants are able to attend appropriate places of worship and practice their religious and spiritual beliefs.
